The name "Modern Media Barn" was carefully selected
because it reflects the way I feel about technology. The barn motif
is not about being cheap or dumb. Rather, I demand that the systems
serve us without us serving them. They must be strong enough to be left
alone without much care.
I believe communication technology must become very
common before it can become useful. We should NOT take a reverent view
of the systems, else we will never view them in a realistic light. Technology
systems that will be successful must capable of being abused, folded,
spindled, and mutilated and still be useful.
The barn is used as an ongoing resource, a storage
closet, and a communication center. It supports my activities and those
of of my research partners and students. Do not expect more of it than
that.
Don't expect me to clean this place up.
