Fundamentals of Business Statistics

Syllabus

This class includes probability and sampling distributions, interval estimation, hypothesis testing, experimental design, and analysis of variance, simple and multiple regression, and chi square tests of independence. It will emphasize computerized statistical analysis.

Prerequisite: Math 105, 201. You must have these classes or you may be dropped without credit.

Venue: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 11 to 11:50AM, 127 Moody Hall.

Software: All students are required to have access to Microsoft Office, and a fully functional web browser/email program. The student will need access to the book CD or the online web page and the ability to download large files.

Class Web: There are significant resources available on the class web page. Students are expected to look there for answers. I have provided research resources, online bookstores, class notes, in-class recordings, suggested software, class and paper hints, and links to reach me. Requirements: Class Format: An important element to this class is your participation and the insights that you contribute as you explore and learn the materials. You will be assigned problems to solve on a regular basis in class. Your participation is essential for all students.

Grades will be based on:

Tests: Four tests (non-cumulative) will include multiple choice and problem questions. Worth 17% each.

Review Test: Given with the last test in the final exam period. It will review questions in the first three tests. Worth 12%

Class participation: Each student is expected to come to class having read the assignment for that day. You will be assigned problems for the day to solve and asked to demonstrate your solution. 10%

Homework: In addition to problems solved for class. You will be assigned additional work, mostly from the book to accomplish. A sample of these assignements will be graded. No late assignments will be accepted. 10%
