This class includes probability and sampling distributions, interval
estimation, hypothesis testing, experimental design, and analysis of variance,
simple and multiple regression, and chi square tests of independence.
It will emphasize computerized statistical analysis.

Course Prerequisites
MBA 504 or have had the equivalent as part of your undergraduate coursework,
i.e., MATH 105, MATH 201, BSAT 205 and BSAT 206.
Course Description
This class is designed to increase the knowledge of various quantitative
methods with an emphasis on applications for businesses. Applications
of multivariate methods will be introductory in nature with an assumption
that you already have a basic understanding of univariate statistics.
In addition to the recapture of univariate statistics, this course intends
to cover non-parametric methods, factor analysis, multiple regression,
logistic regression, MANOVA and maybe cluster analysis using computer
statistical packages -- Excel and SPSS.
Student Learning Objectives
1. Introduce different methods of multivariate data analysis.
2. Explain how to match various uni/multivariate techniques with research
objectives.
3. Learn to analyze, interpret and present the statistical outputs from
both Excel and SPSS.
Required Text
Advanced and Multivariate Statistical Methods, Fred Pyrczak, Pyrczak Publishing,
1884585302
Optional Book:
Making Sense of Statistics, Fred Pyrczak, Pyrczak Publishing, 84585701
This second book is offered as a primer for those needing help with basic
concepts.
Other suggestions are available on request.
Software
All students are required to have access to Microsoft Office, and a fully
functional web browser/email program. The student will need access to
SPSS and Excel.
Class Web
There are significant resources available on my web page. http://www.ModernMediaBarn.com
I have provided research resources, online bookstores, class notes, class
and paper hints, and links to reach me. The official course schedule and
class policies are online. Students are expected to look there for answers.
Grading
Course grades are based on homework assignments, mini papers, class participation,
and two tests. The weights are as follows:
Course Grade Basis
Assignments 15%
Mini Papers 30%
Class Participation 10%
Test1 20%
Test2 25%
Homework Assignments
Computer assignments will include conducting the appropriate statistical
analysis and writing short reports of those analyses. Short reports should
not be more than one page for each assignment and you will need to attach
the outputs of your analyses.
Mini Papers
The write-ups should not be more than five pages (not including computer
printouts). You are also required to attach the outputs of the analyses
with the papers. Overall, a mini should include: 1) the results obtained
from applying a multivariate technique; 2) the assumptions and purposes
of the technique; 3) a description of the dataset and variables. Each
mini must be on a different technique. The data used in mini papers may
be collected by an individual or may be existing datasets from reliable
sources. Please check with me for approval on using outside data sources.
